For the second consecutive day, the surroundings of downtown Querétaro and its historic sites, as well as spaces at the UAQ, Tec de Monterrey and ENES UNAM, opened their doors to welcome all attendees to the Day 2 of activities artistic, cultural and literary Hay Festival Querétaro 2024.
Although all the guests are of the utmost importance and leave invaluable words and experiences for the people who attend, there are always names that weigh heavily due to their relevance in their professions. Those of this day were unique stars in their fields: Leila Warrior representing (and how!) narrative journalism; the master Raul Zurita Bringing the ship of poetry and the iconic to a safe harbor Glen Matlockpunk idol and former star bassist for the Sex Pistols.

While it is true that the Chilean poet and the London musician have their star events on Saturday 7th, today, before the media, in separate press conferences, they offered a bright glimpse of what can be seen. However, Leila Guerriero did have her triumphant appearance at nightfall, in a City Theatre with a generous attendance, attended not only by readers and associates, but also by well-known faces from Mexican culture and literature.
The Argentine journalist, who returned to be part of the Hay Festival programme after almost a decade, was accompanied by Jan Martínez Ahrensdirector of The Country AmericaThey talked, in essence, about La llamada, Leila’s most recent book that was published last January by Editorial Anagrama, but the writer’s experiences at the time of writing this profile also inevitably slipped in. Sylvia Labayruwhich were collected by all those who, as practitioners or interested parties, follow the path that Guerriero has been tracing.
Hours before nightfall, two events took place that, without the spotlights that they perhaps deserved to have, were lucky enough to have good attendance. One of them was the conversation that took place Rosaluz Perez Espinoza y Guiomar Rovira with linguistics Yasnaya Elena Aguilar Gilwhere talks were held to commemorate the thirty years that the Zapatista movement recently celebrated. In another of the rooms of the City Museum, the Mexican writer Naive Yehya spoke with the biologist and writer Andres Cota Hiriart about the first one’s book, The Planet of the Mushrooms, also recently published by Anagrama in its collection of essays.

At the same time that Leila Guerriero was telling us about her writing process, the compilation of data and the hours of work invested, in the space dedicated to the Hay Festival at the City Museum, a conversation took place about Literature and podcasts with the women of the moment in those topics: Gina Jaramillo, Romina Sacre, Magali Torres y Silvia Vineyards. For now, in addition to boasting about having had this unique talk, they will also boast about having been the only event of this day, and so far also of the festival, to have a full house in terms of attendance.
Finally, perhaps as a preamble to what will surely happen tomorrow, Raúl Zurita and Glen Matlock offered lectures for the media. The Chilean poet, it is worth saying, gave revitalizing answers regarding the value of poetry in every aspect of life for each of the questions of the colleagues of the press. The British bassist, for his part, in addition to calling him an idiot Donald Trump already Boris Johnsonreflected on the punk movement that was born last century, the evolution of the music scene and how it is not enough to know it to understand it, and, to conclude, his creative process for writing songs.
