Fascinating insights into the world of forensics and science: lecture series at IRM Basel in autumn 2024

The lecture series begins on 18. September with Christian Brenzikofer, the strategic leader of the DVI (Disaster Victim Identification) Team Switzerland. He will provide insights into the complex work involved in identifying victims of major disasters and explain how international cooperation works in such situations.

Am 16 October Philipp Sterzer from the University Psychiatric Clinics Basel will explore the fascinating world of human perception. His lecture “Madness or Reality? How the Brain Builds Worlds for Us” sheds light on the neurobiological foundations of our beliefs and offers new perspectives on psychotic illnesses.

Hanspeter Andres from the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology METAS will be 13. November the crucial role of precise measurements in our everyday lives. He will show how metrology creates trust and contributes to technical progress in various areas of business, administration and science.

The series closes on 11 December with a lecture by Cordula Haas and Jacqueline Neubauer from the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Zurich. They will report on an innovative, interdisciplinary project to investigate sudden, unexplained deaths in young people and will emphasize the importance of genetic analyses and family investigations.

The lectures will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the library of the Institute of Legal Medicine at Pestalozzistrasse 22, 4056 Basel. Participation is free and no registration is required.
