Fire in the Linz Chemical Park: “No danger to the environment”

Workers noticed a flash of flame and raised the alarm. For reasons that are still unclear, a “hydrogen leak” occurred in the synthesis area of the plant, which led to a fire, Managing Director Leonhard Werner confirmed a corresponding media report. No one was injured. The operation has now been completed, the company fire department announced in the early afternoon.

Emergency shutdown

Immediately after the flash flame appeared, the plant was shut down in an emergency, which deprived the fire of fuel and put it out, reported the managing director. Insulation and cable parts that had already started to burn were quickly extinguished by the professional fire brigade. In the meantime, the chemical roundabout and the Steyregger Bridge were closed.

No danger for residents

Mobile measuring stations showed that the concentration of ammonia released was only the maximum concentration at the workplace, which is why there was no danger to residents or the environment. However, there was an unpleasant smell.
