For reasons that are still unclear, a 34-year-old Mercedes driver drove into the back of a VW on Löbauer Strasse in Ebersbach on Thursday afternoon. “Both were travelling in the direction of Kottmarsdorf when the Golf driver stopped due to traffic,” said Danilo Pietsch, spokesman for the Görlitz police department, on Friday. “The Mercedes driver was unable to bring his car to a stop in time and there was a bang.” The Golf driver was injured in the impact. Rescue workers took him to hospital for treatment. The cars sustained damage amounting to around 25,000 euros. (SZ)

Without a driving license and insurance with the e-scooter through Zittau

The police pulled over a 63-year-old man who was driving an e-scooter on Goldbachstrasse in Zittau on Thursday morning without insurance or a driver’s license. According to the police, “the scooter had a current insurance number plate, but it belonged to another vehicle owned by the man.” Patrol officers confiscated the scooter and filed a report. (SZ)

Jordanians, Yemenis, Algerians and Egyptians entered illegally

Once again in Ostritz, the federal police apprehended a total of eleven foreigners who had entered the country illegally on Wednesday and Thursday. According to the authorities, the men were smuggled in. “In the first case on September 4, 2024, it was a group of one Jordanian and three Yemenis aged between 20 and 32,” said Ronny Probst, spokesman for the Ebersbach federal police. “On September 5, 2024, it was an Algerian and six Egyptians aged between 16 and 40.” All were taken into custody. The Jordanian and the Yemenis were later transferred to a reception center, the 16-year-old Algerian was handed over to the youth welfare office, and the six Egyptians were deported to Poland. (SZ)
