Seven people applied for two rural district judge positions, but the Ministry of Justice advertised the vacancies in the Lögbirtingablaðin on 16 August.
On the one hand, it is the position of a judge whose first place of work is at the Eastern District Court and who will be appointed from 1 November 2024. The district court will be based at the Vestfjörður District Court, but will perform duties at all district courts, depending on the decision of the district courts.
Appointment to this position shall be made as soon as possible after the panel assessing the qualifications of candidates for the position of judge has completed its work as specified on the Ministry of Justice website.

The application deadline is September 2nd. The applicants are as follows, but all are applying for both positions:

• Rechtsanwalt Hákon Þorsteinsson,
• Rechtsanwalt Oddur Þorri Viðarsson,
• Ólafur Egill Jónsson stellvertretender Bezirksrichter,
• Sólveig Ingadóttir, Assistant District Judge,
• Sverrir Sigurjónsson, Rechtsanwalt,
• Rechtsanwalt in Valborg Steingrímsdóttir.
It also states that the applications have been submitted to the jury for reviewing the suitability of candidates for the position of judge.
