Chamber music (11.9.), Lore Segal (19.9.), children’s concert (22.9.), “Grätzltraum” (25.9.)
In September, the volunteer district historians of the Josefstadt District Museum (8th, Schmidgasse 18) invite you to interesting events: On Wednesday, September 11th, a music evening by the “Friends of Chamber Music” association begins at 7 p.m. in the museum’s ballroom (1st floor). Visitors will hear compositions by Mozart, Turina, Ligeti and Cerha. Admission is free, donations are welcome. The chamber music lovers will provide information about the “All the best…” program and the participants by email: [email protected]. Contact the museum management: telephone 403 64 15, email [email protected].
On Thursday, September 19, a cultural evening entitled “Back to the mother tongue. Lore Segal’s work in German translation” will start in the museum rooms at 7 p.m. The experts Karin Hanta, Sabina Illmer and Hannah Spannring will talk about the rich literary work of the exiled author Lore Segal, focusing in particular on the translation of the works into German. In addition, the audience can take part in a guided tour of the exhibition “I wanted to love Vienna, but I didn’t dare. The life of the writer Lore Segal”. Segal was once saved from the Nazis by a “children’s transport” to England. Admission is free, donations are accepted. On Sunday, September 22nd, the association “grossundklein” wants to once again inspire the young for the beauty of classical music. In the series “Klassik Cool!” an entertaining “participatory concert” begins at 10.30 a.m. in the museum. To get children aged 2 to 6 in the mood, a stay in the “craft room” (from 10 a.m.) serves. The concert part, for example, is about “hot” and “cold” tones. Excerpts from Vivaldi’s work “The Four Seasons” are lovingly presented by professionals in a child-friendly way. Violin and piano will be played in the morning. Stories round off the entertainment. Adult companions are of course welcome. Tickets: 13 euros per person. With the support of the musicians, the little ones can coax more or less lovely tones from the violin and grand piano after the concert. Information and registration: Telephone 0660/581 33 96 or email [email protected]. Information on the Internet: https://www.grossundklein.info.
Visitors to the Josefstadt District Museum will experience a “reading performance” including a presentation of the art project “A Josefstadt neighborhood dream” on Wednesday, September 25th, from 7 p.m. Evelyn Blumenau and Walter Kreuz promise their listeners a fine treat for the ears. The performative reading will give those present an impression of this participatory cultural event. The focus is on special “neighborhoods” in the 8th district and people connected to Josefstadt. “Fantastic and fictional-humorous scenes” ensure good entertainment (free admission). Information about the event by the “Das Sprech” initiative: www.sprech.org.
The volunteer district historians are also temporarily in action far away from the museum’s home at Schmidgasse 18: On Friday, September 20, director Maria Ettl and her team will be taking part in the “Josefstadt Street Festival”. From 2 p.m., anyone curious can approach the museum staff at the corner of Josefstädter Straße/Piaristengasse (next to “Oberbank”) with questions about the history of the Josefstadt district. The information is free of charge. Find out more online: www.bezirksmuseum.at.
