More and more German companies are investing in Greece – DW – 06.09.2024

German-Greek trade relations are at an all-time high. More and more German companies are investing in the Mediterranean location, not least because the country attracts highly qualified specialists.

The tech industry in particular is getting its money’s worth. Important companies such as Team Viewer are already on site. The northern Greek port city of Thessaloniki in particular is currently developing into a hub for new companies in the field of programming and data processing.

The German-Greek Chamber of Commerce explains that the volume of trade by German companies in Greece has doubled in the last ten years. The organization has been helping companies enter the Greek market for 100 years. Although there are still problems, especially with regard to bureaucracy, a lot has changed since the financial crisis.

Young professionals in particular can benefit from this. They study at state universities and then cannot find suitable jobs on the Greek labor market. The consequence: brain drain. Experts also see the country on the right path and hope that the technology and energy industry will continue to develop, especially through foreign investors. The economy cannot be stabilized by booming tourism alone.
