To mark the launch of Ruth Landy’s book “Grandma Mina’s Cheesecake”, a cheesecake festival will take place on Wednesday, September 11, from 5 p.m. in the Landau bookstore Bücherknecht at Theaterstrasse 11. The host, Markus Knecht, and the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation (GCJZ), invite you to the event. Author Ruth Landy will then be connected via video from San Francisco. The ceremony will be accompanied musically by the Duo Sonsuave. These are Christiane Schalk, flute and vocals, and Frank Reifenstahl, guitar, accompanied by Mayor Dominik Geißler on the piano. About the content of the work: “The sweetness of life” is embodied by the cheesecake in the story of the Levy/Landy family, which Ruth Landy describes in her book, starting with her great-grandmother Wilhelmina, known as Mina. While the great-grandmother was murdered by the Nazis, Landy’s father, Ernest Levy, recognized the threat as a young man. He was able to flee to the USA at the age of 21, and his sister Sue followed him at the age of 17. As tragic as the family story is, the book gives the reader hope, because the smell of cheesecake wafts through this family story again and again. Admission to the book launch is free. Anyone who brings a cheesecake will receive a book voucher from the Bücherknecht bookstore.
