A series of informative talks were held at the central headquarters of the Rural Society of Río Negro, aimed at producers from Young and its area.
The topics were Liming by Agr. Eng. Eduardo Algorta, soil correction and fertilization in search of high productivity by Agr. Eng. Alexandre Rosso and closing the night with Agr. Eng. Guilherme Londero on Precision Agriculture and its soil acidity correction strategies.
Gallinal and Boix and MAS AGRO were invited to the activity, where their representatives were present.
At the end of the event, Agr. Engineer Algorta reviewed the different topics discussed during the evening.
It had a good attendance.
«Yes, the truth is that today’s talk was a success.
We put a lot of emphasis on what liming techniques are, what they are and what they are used for, how the fields in Uruguay react, productivity, and how they differ.
Well, this needs to be shown, disseminated, and people need to take this input as something they do every year, and it needs to be included in the investment scheme, which together with the investment projects, provides very interesting tax savings.
So there is no reason not to use it, which is what is key from now on.
Yes, it is difficult to get people to attend the talks, but since it is a topic, a problem at a national level and it is growing, I believe that attendance is key and that each producer tells the neighbouring producer afterwards what he heard, what he learned, what effects it has, so that little by little they begin to try and convince themselves that the results are there.
We talked about the part of what are the limestones available in Uruguay that we sell here and in Argentina.
It was also mentioned about a fertilizer that people who do not want to lime or who rent land and do not want to spend on liming, we have a fertilizer that corrects the acidity in the sowing furrow, so it is very easy to apply and at a low cost.
And then there was an exhibition by a Brazilian group called Precision Agriculture, which has been doing a lot of whitewashing here in Uruguay, especially in the eastern area, and now they are here along the coast, showing what they do, which is excellent because it is the correct and efficient use in each area.
“so as not to waste supplies, which is key.”
Uruguayan soil has been degrading year after year due to the intensive use of crops.
«Yes, the central theme of the discussion here was pH and, well, what it is that negatively influences, let’s say, the use of inputs and the final crop yield.
Well, Uruguayan soil is degrading year after year due to the intensive use of crops, and the pH is dropping.
Today’s crops are genetically more intensive than in years past, so pH correction and therefore the reduction of fertilizers are two concepts that need to be made clear in order for this to be corrected, because if we continue adding fertilizers at the same doses, this will continue to be a problem and the crop yields will not be reached.
Yes, fertilizer is being used more and more, people are learning and it is giving results and I believe that in the next five years there will be a noticeable expansion of this input.
There is no turning back because the results are seen very quickly.
Exactly, yes, because the added lime makes you aware of the fertilizer dosage.
So, I’m not saying not to use fertilizer, but that correct use means that acidity does not continue to increase.
pH can be increased by liming in combination with the correct use of fertilizer.
That would be the conclusion.
In accordance with the assistance of farmers.
«Yes, very satisfied, very good attendance and well, we see that there is a lot of potential in this area.»
