The president of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenskihe said on Monday during a joint press conference with the Dutch Prime Minister, Dick Schoofheld in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia that the operation of the troops of Kiev in the Russian oblast of Kursk is going according to plan.
“The Kursk operation is fulfilling its mission and is going according to plan”Zelensky said, adding that the presence of Ukrainian troops in this Russian border region – where they control, according to the latest assessment by kyiv, nearly a thousand localities and almost 1,300 square kilometres – could influence the situation on the front in eastern Ukraine.
“As for the difficulties on the Pokrovsk and Toretsk axes, we believe that the Kursk operation may also have an impact. It may reduce the intensity with the reduction in the number of Russian troops, but for now (the situation) there is difficult.”the Ukrainian head of state said.
Pokrovsk and Toretsk, in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, are two of the areas of the front where Ukraine is trying to contain the advances of the Russian army, which has captured numerous towns on the eastern front in recent months.
