Liberec table tennis player Jiří Suchánek will finally take home the silver medal from the Paralympic Games in Paris after today’s final match in table tennis singles. In the afternoon match, he lost in 31 minutes to the Polish representative Rafael Czuper 1:3 in sets. Thanks to Jiří Suchánek’s silver, the Czech Paralympic team already has seven medals.
The Liberec table tennis player started the final match by losing the first set 6:11, but in the second set he evened the score with an 11:8 win. In the next two sets, however, he was unable to face the Polish opponent and Czuper won them in the ratio of 11:8 and 11:6. “I am happy with my performance to have come this far. When I won the semi-final yesterday and saw the draw, I knew I was going to have a tough opponent. But I did a good job,” stated immediately after the final match Jiří Suchánek.
“Before the final, we were on the same level of motivation. Neither of us had a Paralympic gold yet. And Czuper, like me, knew that this was his big chance. But the statistics spoke more for him in terms of medals and other achievements, so he was on a horse. But I also believed in myself. Since I was weaker on paper, I had to take a risk, otherwise it was not a bad match and I leave with my head held high.” supplies Biscuits. After all, the silver medal from the Paralympics is his greatest sporting success in his career so far, he won bronze twice in the previous Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and in Tokyo.
“I had incredible support here at the Paris Games. Family, friends, organizational team. Other athletes from our national team also came to the finals. I want to thank them very much, they are the ones who got me to where I am,” he concluded with an emotional statement after the match Jiří Suchánek.
