-Tócate Foundation and Concanaco Servytur Mexico join forces to raise awareness among the business community of Mexico and Yucatan
In recognition of being pioneers in modifying their health regulations and granting a paid day for women in their workforce to undergo medical studies appropriate to their gender, six Mexican and Yucatecan companies received the Pink Triangle Distinction for the first time, awarded jointly by the Tócate IAP Foundation and the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur México).
These include Heineken Mexico Southeast Region, Bepensa, Hotel Camino Real Merida, Procesadora Cazola, TLC Asociados, Avasa and its four brands, Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty & Firefly, as well as the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism itself; who become an example for other companies to promote healthy lifestyle habits among their employees.
In this regard, Octavio de la Torre Stéffano, president of Concanaco Servytur México, highlighted the efforts that Fundación Tócate has made over the last 16 years for the early detection of breast cancer. He also announced that talks are already underway to get the National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit) to join the initiative.
For her part, Alejandra Gutiérrez Blanco, president of the Private Assistance Institution, explained that the Pink Triangle Distinction seeks to promote the application and monitoring of the Pink Law, approved in Yucatán last year 2016, during the LXI Legislature, chaired by Celia Rivas Rodríguez.
She explained that in order for companies to be eligible for the Distinction, in addition to granting a day for their employees to undergo medical examinations, they must include in their health policy awareness, training of their staff and carry out campaigns for the timely diagnosis of breast cancer. “In Mexico, 23,790 women have been diagnosed with breast cancer, and 7,838 of them have died from this disease. It remains the leading cause of cancer-related death in women,” she stressed.
In addition, as a member of the Mexican Coalition for Breast Health (Comesama), Alejandra Gutiérrez Blanco called on Mexican government authorities to allocate a budget for the development of the National Cancer Registry contemplated in the General Health Law, in order to have exact figures on the incidence and deaths from this disease in the country.
Representing the companies, Jessica Saade, Public Affairs Manager of Bepensa, Silvia Michelle Ruiz, Human Resources Coordinator of Heineken Mexico Southeast Region, Jeryde Uribe Estrada, Human Capital Manager of Procesadora Cazola, Elvia Cohen, Business Development Director of TLC Asociados, Martín Ranfft, General Manager of Hotel Camino Real Mérida, Marco Andueza, General Manager of Avasa, and Octavio de la Torre Stéffano, President of Concanaco Servytur, received the Distinction.
