Prior to the announcement, Linkin Park had launched a mysterious countdown on its social media accounts that was set to end on August 28. It included a link to Linkin Park’s official website, which led to the live countdown, as well as an email subscription box and a link to a My Community phone chat.
Then, when the countdown ended on August 28, fans were left baffled as it immediately started counting down again after reaching zero. The band then shared the countdown with the caption, “It’s only a matter of time…” The clock then displayed a glitch at nine hours and five minutes, leading fans to speculate that it would be a September 5 release. Sum 41 vocalist Deryck Whibley, who had announced his own exit on August 28, had to release a statement confirming that he would not be joining the band.
Earlier today (September 5), it was revealed that fans who had been invited to attend the event had been required to sign a waiver beforehand to ensure that any details shared were kept to themselves until the live event began.
