San José won the bronze medal in a less than positive study. It turns out that a study was carried out and our capital appears in third place among the most expensive cities in Latin America.
A research firm conducted an analysis of the places with the highest cost of living and studied 226 cities around the world on all 5 continents. While the most expensive cities in the world are in Europe and Asia, Latin Americans also have their own.

The study was conducted by the consulting firm Mercer in March of this year and compared the cost of some 200 items in the family shopping basket, in addition to transportation, clothing and entertainment.

The consultancy explains: “To ensure consistency in the ranking comparisons of each city, the New York ranking was used, since the movements of the “base city” and the currency were measured against the US dollar.”
The most expensive city in Latin America is Nassau in the Bahamas, which is ranked 9th in the world; Mexico City is second, which is ranked 33rd in the world, followed, painfully, by our San Jose, which is ranked 36th worldwide.
Our capital, according to the study, is more expensive than Montevideo (Uruguay), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and even Sao Paulo (Brazil).
