Two people have been arrested in connection with shots fired outside a gate at JBSA-Lackland last month.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said Wednesday that the investigation was a joint effort by SAPD, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, DPS, FBI and ATF.

Joseph Jimenez, 19, and Ricardo Samaniego, 18, were arrested in recent days.

“Ballistic evidence was collected that led us to believe that Jimenez was the suspect in the stolen vehicle that was seen near JBSA hours after the shooting,” McManus explained. “Video evidence was collected that showed that Jimenez was, in fact, the same suspect.”

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar added that tests performed on shell casings found at the scene matched shell casings found in an unrelated shooting, leading to the suspects.

No one was injured during the incident outside Lackland.

The main gate of the JBSA Chapman Training Center was closed for several hours after security guards exchanged gunfire with the shooters.

A JBSA Chronicle He revealed that this headquarters offers classes for aviators “who are studying combat control, pararescue, special reconnaissance and tactical air control group specialties” for the Special Warfare Training Wing.

The facility was originally called the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Training Annex, the story explains. But in 2020, it was renamed to honor Master Sergeant John A. Chapman, “an Air Force combat controller who gave his life fighting in Afghanistan in 2002.” The heroic serviceman trained at Lackland Air Force Base in 1989.

In 2018, Chapman was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in trying to save a wounded colleague at Takur Ghar, Afghanistan, despite the wounds he sustained in battle. “He is only the fourth enlisted Air Force airman to earn the Medal of Honor,” the account states.
