President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the green light for the deal in a telephone conversation.
In December of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin announced that India will manufacture Russian Mi-17 and Ka-226T helicopters. Until now, the main competitor of the Russian machines is Eurocopter. It is planned that the Indians will produce about 400 Russian helicopters per year.
The Ka-226T is a multipurpose helicopter with two Arrius 2G1 gas turbine engines, manufactured by the French company Turbomeca. Two variants are produced – patrol and medical. It is characterized by small dimensions and high maneuverability. Overall, 70% of the armament in the Indian Army is Soviet and Russian made.
