Ukraine: Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba resigned – 2024-09-05 10:26:05

His resignation was submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, through a letter. The news was announced by the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, in a Facebook post.

The President of the Parliament in his post states that the resignation of the Foreign Minister will be considered in one of the next meetings of the plenary session.

Layoffs and resignations in Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday fired his deputy chief of staff, Rostislav Shurma, according to a decree posted on the presidency’s website.

At the same time, the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, announced the resignation of Olha Stefanyshina, the deputy minister responsible for European Integration. Stefanisina left as part of the government reshuffle, he added.

Zelensky said changes will be made to ensure Ukraine has the strong government it needs. “The fall will be very important. State institutions must be structured in such a way that Ukraine can achieve all the results it wants,” he said in his daily video message.

“For this reason we need to strengthen certain aspects of the government and changes are being prepared. There will also be changes in the office of the presidency,” he added.

Earlier in the day, the ministers of Justice, Environment and Strategic Industries submitted their resignations.

More specifically, the minister responsible for the domestic production of weapons during the war with Russia along with the ministers of Justice and Environment submitted their resignations on Tuesday, which were announced by the Speaker of the Parliament.

They are the Minister of Strategic Industries, Oleksandr Kamushin, the Minister of Justice, Denis Maliuska, and the Minister of the Environment, Ruslan Strilets.

The speaker of the House said that the applications for their resignation will be discussed in the parliament soon.

Strategic Industries Minister Oleksandr Kamushin said he would remain in the defense sector but in a different position.

After the dismissals of other ministers in the past period, almost a third of the ministerial positions remain vacant. Zelensky and his political allies are expected to fill those positions ahead of his trip to the US later this month, where he hopes to present a “winning plan” to US President Joe Biden.
