Borys Szyc turned 46 on September 4, 2024. He is one of the most popular actors in Poland. He did not hide the fact that he had problems with excessive alcohol consumption. – I was already heading towards the grave at a fast pace – he said in one of the interviews.
Borys Szyc has many well-known and popular film and series roles under his belt. He is certainly one of the most recognizable actors in Poland.
Privately, the actor had to face many difficulties. He settled down with Justyna Szyc-Nagłowska, with whom he had a son. He also has daughters from previous relationships. The actor has been sober for almost 10 years. Although talking about the past is not an easy task, Szyc has agreed to present his story of battling addiction several times.

“Six bottles per head”
Borys Szyc revealed during the Pol’and’Rock festival in 2023 that he first noticed problems with drinking alcohol while still at university. At that time, alcoholic beverages accompanied the man and his friends on various occasions – any excuse was a good one to reach for alcohol.
– I used to drink only wine with a few friends. Six bottles apiece. We come up with different things to make the alcohol more enjoyable. I knew already at university that something was wrong (…). I was 36 when I got myself together, so it took me a while – he revealed.
Although the actor won the battle with addiction, he does not hide the fact that the road to sobriety is not easy.
– A sober alcoholic, who has been sober for even eight years, remembers perfectly all the mechanics of drinking. I raise something to my mouth, tilt it and swallow. Even though I know it’s a prop, it triggers old habits in you. I’ve had dreams that I drink and wake up scared. There’s a price to pay for that and you have to be careful. – he explained during the festival.
“I felt that I had someone to live for”
Justyna Szyc-Nagłowska helped the actor fight his addiction. She supported him in difficult moments and did not leave him when problems arose. She also turned out to be the love of Szyc’s life. Despite initial adversities, they create a happy relationship.
– I simply decided that I would rather live than not live. And I was already heading towards the grave at a fast pace. I felt that I had someone to live for, that there was my daughter, whom I love more than life itself, that there was my family, that there was my work, my passion – the actor confessed during a conversation with “Wysokie Obcasy” in 2018.

Szyc’s current wife also knew how to support him. As it turns out, regular workouts are helpful in maintaining sobriety. Szyc-Nagłowska once posted a photo of her beloved on InstaStories, where she showed him running around the city.
“And my husband has his own ways of living a healthy life. He doesn’t drink and he runs,” she wrote in her story at the time.
