SYRIZA: Change of name and abolition of the Political Secretariat proposed by Kasselakis – Reactions from members of the Statute Committee – 2024-09-04 22:44:08

Stefanos Kasselakis proposes big changes to SYRIZA. The president of SYRIZA chose the last meeting of the Statute Committee to make known his intentions for the future of the party.

In fact, the changes fell like a bolt of lightning, surprising all the members of the Commission, who, according to information from documentonews.gr, have already expressed serious reactions, since they had no information until a few minutes before the start of the meeting.

Perhaps the most important is the change of name, as well as the abolition of the Political Secretariat. It is recalled that at the beginning of the summer St. Kasselakis had told One Channel categorically that “the name will remain SYRIZA”.

Another proposal is to reduce the number of members of the Central Committee (201), which will be renamed the National Council and will include MPs and MEPs ex officio.

Also, St. Kasselakis proposes a maximum limit of three terms for each member of parliament per district. That is, if someone has been elected three times in a certain region, in the next elections he will have to change region.

Furthermore, in his proposal, he suggests that party members should have more powers, so that they can decide on top issues, such as ballots. In connection with this proposal, the digitization of the party is progressing.

Also, in addition to the secretary and deputy secretary, 4-5 positions of special secretaries who will have a specific role are proposed.
