Sony takes down servers Concord offline. Two weeks after the live service hero-shooter was released to the world, Sony has just decided it’s not worth the time and effort. The game had about 700 active players on Steam at launch. The servers will go offline on Friday, September 6.
We wrote a review about it on September 2nd and had mixed feelings about it. The game is basically quite good, but Sony made a few weird decisions that, surprise, killed the game. We said it already. Only that it would go so fast, we didn’t expect that. And now all we can think about is that meme of that newsreader from South Park: aaaand it’s gone.
It does feel like a drastic decision, as Firewalk Studios could have simply made the game free-to-play. They probably didn’t see the point in doing so. Developer Firewalk says they’re still investigating how to better serve players, so it’s not impossible that a free model will be introduced. Everyone who bought the game, on both PlayStation 5 and PC, will get their money back. “The support and the fan engagement that was there was heartwarming for us,” says lead developer Ryan Ellis. “While we did some things right, there were also some decisions that we didn’t anticipate the outcome of.”
There were already reports that players were already at least eight minutes had to wait for a pot Concord to play, so hard was it to find active players. So it was really a matter of time. You have until Friday to play one last pot.
