Juventus could rival Inter Milan to sign Lille striker Jonathan David next summer.
This is reported in today’s print edition of the Roman newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
24-year-old Canadian international David is set to be one of the biggest names on the free transfer market next summer.
The former Gent striker is under contract with Lille until the end of June.
However, David has yet to agree to an extension with the Ligue 1 club. And it seems highly unlikely that he will.
The 24-year-old should therefore be available at the end of his contract.
And given David’s quality and age, he will be a pretty interesting free transfer opportunity.
One club that certainly has a reputation for taking advantage of such opportunities is Inter.
The Nerazzurri have signed Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Andre Onana and Marcus Thuram via this route in recent years.
This summer alone, Inter brought in Piotr Zielinski and Mehdi Taremi after their contracts with Napoli and Porto respectively ended.
Juventus could rival Inter for Jonathan David
Inter is therefore already one of the clubs most linked to a transfer for David next summer.
There would be similarities with such a transfer to Inter’s transfer of Thuram last summer, given the position and age of both players.
And Inter are likely to sign an attacking player next summer.
Marko Arnautovic’s contract with the Nerazzurri expires at the end of June, so the club will certainly be looking for a striker to strengthen its squad.
But Inter will not be the only team interested in David.
According to Corriere, Juventus have also taken steps to prepare the ground for a transfer.
The Bianconeri have been in contact with David’s representative.
At the moment, it is still unclear what the future of striker Dusan Vlahovic will be at Juventus, due to the former Fiorentina forward’s high salary.
David would only ask for a salary of around €3 million net per season.
And even if Vlahovic stays, Juventus could still sign the Canadian as additional attacking depth.
