AIKO and ISC Konstanz jointly organize groundbreaking BifiPV workshop in Zhuhai – pv magazine Germany

4. September 2024 aiko

AIKO, an industry-leading solar manufacturer and BloombergNEF Tier 1 company, and the International Solar Energy Research Center Konstanz (ISC Konstanz) are pleased to jointly announce the BifiPV Workshop to be held in Zhuhai, China from November 20-22, 2024. This prestigious event brings together experts invited by the international scientific committee consisting of professionals from leading institutions such as ISC Konstanz, NREL, Sandia National Laboratories, CEA INES, QEERI, SERIS, ZHAW, Gunam, PVEL, ATAMOSTEC and AIKO.

The focus of the workshop will be on the transformative potential of bifacial XBC technology, which is not only poised to revolutionize large utility-scale PV systems, but is also leading the way as a future trend in photovoltaic development. From groundbreaking research to practical application, XBC technology is setting new standards in the industry by achieving the lowest levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), which is expected to fall below 1 cent per kilowatt hour (1 μk/kWh) when integrated with advanced horizontal single-axis trackers (HSAT). This breakthrough will significantly reduce the cost of solar energy, making it more competitive and accessible on a global scale.

The workshop will include a series of in-depth sessions and panel discussions covering a wide range of topics critical to the advancement of PV technology, including:

• Cutting-edge materials and wafer innovations: Immerse yourself in advances in materials science and wafer technology that are pushing the boundaries of PV efficiency, longevity and overall system performance.
• Advanced Cell R&D and Production Techniques: Gain insight into the latest breakthroughs in photovoltaic cell research and production methods that are leading to major advances in energy conversion efficiency.
• Innovative module design and manufacturing: Discover the future of PV module development, with a focus on improving the performance, reliability and scalability needed to meet diverse market demands.
• Modeling, simulation and characterization techniques: Learn about the latest methods to accurately simulate and characterize the performance of PV systems under different environmental conditions to ensure optimal operation in the field.
• Evolving standards and certification processes: Discuss the latest trends in PV standards and certification protocols that are essential to maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and market acceptance in a rapidly evolving industry.
• Optimization of large PV systems: Explore strategies and best practices for the planning, installation and operation of large PV systems to achieve maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness, thereby increasing return on investment.
• Comprehensive LCOE analysis: Take a close look at the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), focusing on the key cost drivers and economic trends that will shape the future solar energy landscape.

Participants will have the opportunity to exclusively tour AIKO’s state-of-the-art factory in Zhuhai and gain insights into the company’s innovative manufacturing processes. Another highlight of the event will be a visit to some representative zero-carbon projects, such as a zero-carbon island. This visit will offer participants the opportunity to experience first-hand how advanced photovoltaic technology is driving the transition to a carbon-free society and demonstrate the transformative power of solar energy in creating safe, stable and clean power solutions for remote areas.

Dr. Christian Peter, co-chair of the workshop and Managing Director of Solarlab AIKO Europe, said: “We are delighted to welcome our guests from around the world to this important workshop in Zhuhai. This workshop is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of the future of the photovoltaic industry. AIKO and ISC Konstanz stand for this innovation and we look forward to sharing our insights and encouraging joint discussions. This meeting is a testament to the spirit of collaboration that drives our industry forward.”

Dr. Radovan Kopecek, co-chair of the workshop and CTO of ISC Konstanz, commented: “We invite all stakeholders, from researchers to industry leaders, to join us in Zhuhai for discussions that will shape the future of solar energy. BC technology, especially bifacial XBC, with its unmatched efficiency and durability, is poised to lead the future of solar energy. Its potential ranges from residential and commercial installations to large utility projects, offering a versatile and reliable solution for diverse energy requirements. This workshop will highlight the central role of XBC technology in driving innovation and expanding its global application.”

With an estimated attendance of 400 participants, the BifiPV workshop promises to be a major event in the solar industry calendar.
