Objections rejected: Roger Federer can build his boathouse

There is currently a boat harbor with an access channel in Seegubel near Rapperswil-Jona. The property belongs to Roger Federer and the former tennis star wants to build a boathouse there. This was not well received by everyone and there were several objections to it.

Now it is clear: the Federer family is allowed to build. The boat harbor will be demolished, the contaminated land on the site will be removed and the shoreline will be redesigned “and ecologically upgraded,” as the city of Rapperswil-Jona writes. It also states: “Nature conservation measures have been defined as a replacement measure for the impairment of the flora and fauna in the lake and on the lakeshore that are worthy of protection.”

The project triggered a total of four procedures; the city council made the documents available to the public and then forwarded them to the cantonal construction and environment department. “The application documents have since been examined and approved by the relevant cantonal authorities,” it says.

All pending objections to the new boathouse were dealt with and rejected by the city council and the cantonal authorities. The city council therefore granted permission for the demolition of the harbor and the construction of the new boathouse at its last meeting. An appeal against this decision can be lodged with the Construction and Environment Department of the Canton of St.Gallen within 14 days.
