FBW press release

Beetlejuice is back: The return of the wacky demon from Tim Burton’s creative mind is a huge cinematic horror fun with a star-studded ensemble in top form!

It has been 36 years since the Deetz family was haunted in their house by the eccentric demon Beetlejuice. Back then, Beetlejuice tried unsuccessfully to sneak his way back to earth by marrying the rebellious teenage daughter Lydia. A lot has happened since then. Lydia is a presenter and now has a rebellious teenage daughter of her own named Astrid. Lydia’s father has just died in a plane crash, mourned in typical exuberant fashion by Lydia’s stepmother Delia. When Beetlejuice reappears out of the blue, one thing quickly becomes clear: this demon is here to stay.

It took over three decades for Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Michael Keaton and Tim Burton to come together again to bring the story of one of the most anarchistic and in every respect unique demons in cinema history back to life – and the countless funny and surprising ideas show that the wait was worth it. The sets, costumes and make-up are designed with devoted attention to detail, and there are countless little highlights and Easter eggs to discover in every picture, which will be fun not only for viewers who know the first film from 1988. As a real horror comedy, BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE also contains individual bloody and drastic scenes, but these are always offset by Tim Burton’s absurd, dry humor, whose signature can be felt above all in the design of the ‘afterlife’. The whole film seems like a humorous, nostalgic reminiscence of the exuberant creative imagination of this exceptional director, and the cast delivers a devoted performance. Catherine O’Hara as the exalted artist Delia, Jenny Ortega as the rebellious teenager and thus the perfect mirror image of Lydia, who brings Winona Ryder back to life with all the ambivalence of her character. And above all, of course, Beetlejuice reigns supreme. Keaton slips into this role as if he had never given it up: wild, chaotic, devious, cheeky, always surprising and great fun. Just like the whole film, after which you should think carefully about how often you want to mention the eponymous name. Because you never know what will happen…
