According to the Baden-Württemberg State Music Association (LMV), the choirs and music clubs in the state have stopped the downward trend of recent years and are again recording more members than was the case during the corona pandemic, for example. Their number grew by 14 percent to more than 780,000 last year compared to 2021. This is also thanks to better youth work, it said: The number of people under the age of 18 who played music in choirs and clubs grew by around 3.3 percent to over 86,000.
Young people are the future of music culture, said LMV President Christoph Palm. The campaign “United.Music.Make” launched in 2022 and promoted by the Ministry of Culture has also had an impact and has been able to inspire new members for ensembles and choirs. According to LMV, almost a third of all organized, non-professional musicians in Germany come from Baden-Württemberg.
The State Music Association is made up of four choir and seven instrumental associations with a total of around 12,000 ensembles. These include the Baden Choral Association, the Baden-Württemberg Singers’ Association and the State Association of the German Zither Music Association.
