The Titanic is falling apart. Part of the iconic railing has already fallen off the bow

The most famous steamship in the world, which has been lying on the seabed for 112 years, is unfortunately falling apart. We are talking about none other than the Titanic, whose iconic bow is collapsing, made famous by the iconic scene of the lovers’ “flying” in James Cameron’s film. This summer’s expedition delved into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, taking over two million photographs and uncovering many forgotten artifacts, including a rare bronze statue of the goddess Diana of Versailles. “The latest photos, videos and scans reveal a number of changes to the wreck and confirm that the giant ship is decaying and disintegrating,” she stated RMS Titanic Inc. with the fact that a 4.5-meter section of the railing on the port bow broke away.

ŠTETL FEST IN BRNO AND KAFKA

This is precisely the part of the railing that became famous in James Cameron’s romantic blockbuster Titanic from 1997. Photos prove that this part of the ship suffers the most, where Leonardo DiCaprio “taught Kate Winslet to fly” in a loving embrace.

During July and August of this year, two expeditions were sent to the wreck of the Titanic. The result is more than two million photos of the steamship, which was presented as unsinkable already during its first launch into sea waters. As is already widely known, during his first voyage from Southampton, England to New York, he hit an iceberg and sank. At that time, 1,500 passengers, crew and staff died out of a total of 2,200 people on board. The wreck of the award-winning steamship is located at a depth of around 3,800 meters in the North Atlantic Ocean, southeast of the Canadian province of Newfoundland.

RMS Titanic Inc., which organized the exploration expedition to the wreck, manages the collection and formally “owns” the liner, said “countless” new artifacts had been discovered. Among them was, for example, the famous bronze statuette of the Roman goddess Diana of Versailles, which was enthroned on the mantelpiece of the lounge for the elite class of passengers and embodied the luxury and splendor of the vessel.

When the Titanic split in half, the lounge was “torn apart” and the rare statue ended up on the debris field, where it rested for over 100 years. “It was photographed once in 1986, but due to the traditional secrecy surrounding the Titanic wreck, its location remained unknown.” writes on his website RMS Titanic Inc. with researchers spending thirteen days at sea and hundreds of hours documenting the wreck in the depths. “The collapse and destruction of the Titanic is inevitable, yet we must continue our mission to document and preserve the memory of the wreck at least through this trace. The bow of the Titanic is iconic. What we see now is a reminder of the constant decay that takes place every day,” added the company. Experts therefore question whether the Titanic will be recovered from the ocean depths or whether it will remain in its “undersea grave.”
