With the open arms of the modernizing PASOK, albeit with new conditions, Charilaou Trikoupi celebrated its 5th anniversary under the leadership of Nikos Androulakis, who at the same time conjured up anxiety for the unity of the party, with an eye on the internal party elections. Under the slogan “PASOK is strong here united” by members, executives and friends of PASOK, in Zappeion, shortly before 8.30 on Tuesday evening, on the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of September 3, 1974, the Secretary of Central Policy PASOK-KINAL Committee member Andreas Spyropoulos kicked off the 50th anniversary event of PASOK. The first political intervention-greeting was made by Kostas Simitis, former Prime Minister and former president of PASOK, to be followed by the next presidents George Papandreou (and former prime minister) and Evangelos Venizelos. With the phrase “Moving forward. With courage, knowledge, strength. And we will succeed”, Costas Simitis concluded his short speech.
In a more detailed speech, charged with the experiential content of the Declaration of September 3, George Papandreou concluded on today and the next day for PASOK and the country, emphasizing the dynamics of the citizens. It is characteristic that he addressed a call to progressive citizens “for a Green Democratic Revolution”. He described the internal party battle for PASOK’s leadership as a “big, open, participatory” process. He called on progressive citizens “to enthusiastically participate in these processes. To become co-shapers of our course for the reconstruction of the great Democratic Progressive Party”. And he concluded: “The time has come again, to show ourselves worthy of PASOK’s offer and history.
And worthy of the expectations and dreams of every democrat progressive citizen”.
It is noteworthy that Evangelos Venizelos identified as three great rhapsodies of the PASOK epic important political periods of the party’s recent Greek governing course, under the presidency of Simitis, Papandreou, Venizelos. What is impressive, however, is that by closing his speech he gave the impression of his preference for the leadership in the internal party elections of October 6, 2024. Regarding the internal party battle and the goals of the next day for PASOK and the country, Evangelos Venizelos addressed by name the Anna Diamantopoulou, using her first name (Anna) to list inclusively (without naming) the other candidate presidents for the presidency of PASOK.
Immediately after, audio-visual material from the PASOK march was shown, with Andreas Papandreou and all the presidents, there was intense applause from those present at the references to the former PASOK President Fofi Gennimata.
This was followed by the keynote address of the event by the president of PASOK-KINAl, Nikos Androulakis, who emphasized unity. He referred to the historical milestones during the party’s march and developed the political disputes in a critical period for PASOK and Greece. Addressing the members and executives of PASOK, shortly before completing his installation, Nikos Androulakis pointed out the following:
“Together we achieved unity. Together we achieved political autonomy. PASOK is here united strong and stronger than at any other time in the last decade. No one asks us anymore with whom we will co-govern. On the contrary, we are charged with a great responsibility: to give hope again to the Greek people and a way out of the destructive government of the ND. We are not only a party of memory, but a party of all generations of our country. The time has come to take the next step together. From the political autonomy of PASOK, the time has come to give all our strength for the autonomy of politics itself in our homeland. to put an end to the doctrine that the economic elite decides, politics executes and society submits. With PASOK let’s unite all the progressive forces of the country, together give perspective and build a Greece worthy of the dreams and needs of the great democratic progressive majority of our country, of the new generation that is here today (…) I am sure that all together we can succeed and we will succeed”.
