Mexico City. Workers of the Judicial Branch on strike for two weeks, demanded that legislators respect and abide by the decision of the two federal courts that last Saturday granted suspensions that indefinitely prevent the Chamber of Deputies from approving the ruling that reforms the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF), and announced that next Sunday, September 8, they will participate in the mobilization of the Angel of Independence to the Senate called by some civil associations, among them México Unido, Marea Rosa and the Frente Cívico Nacional, the latter which includes Emilio Alvarez Icaza and former PRD member Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo.
At a press conference, Patricia Aguayo Bernal, secretary of the Tenth Collegiate Court on Labor Matters and who has become a spokesperson during the protests, said that they will begin another phase of actions, including joining the organizations.
“Several civil society associations have approached us to show their support. Yesterday, during the demonstration of the Angel of Independence at the Senate, the students of Mexico reaffirmed their support for the Judicial Branch of the Federation. They are against and reject this regressive and violative reform not only towards the Judicial Branch and its members, but also to the detriment of Mexico’s democracy, the rule of law and, more palpably, in violation of the human rights of all Mexicans.”
He reiterated that the student movement fills the PJF workers with hope and strength. “It recharges our energy to continue forward in this unprecedented movement. Today, Mexico is a reference point for the entire world. There has never been a demonstration of the proportions that have been expressed today, not only in Mexico City, but throughout the country.”
He added that a caravan of PJF workers is traveling from Zacatecas to the capital of the country, who will stop at each specific place in order to join more contingents from the Judicial Branch, as well as civil society organizations, to march next Sunday.
“Today, university students know perfectly well that this fight is also for the future of all of them, it is to maintain a State of Law, an effective, efficient, independent, autonomous Judiciary with career judges, which many of them aspire to be. We will continue in this fight, we will not give up at any time and we will continue to take strong actions until they listen to us.”
