Mexico City. The workers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) voted this Monday in favor of joining the work stoppage in the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF), in protest of the proposed judicial reform, whose discussion begins this Tuesday in the Chamber of Deputies.
The employees of the headquarters and the surrounding buildings of the country’s constitutional court were summoned by the College of Young Law Students of the Court and by the College of Secretaries to carry out the vote via ballot boxes on whether or not to join the suspension of work.
Court sources reported that 1,072 of the 3,647 workers participated, of which 951 voted in favor of the suspension of activities, 116 against the strike, and there were 5 abstentions.
To the members of the Colleges and the general public: Please be advised that the majority of the members of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation voted in favor of joining the suspension of work due to the judicial reform that will be discussed shortly in the Chamber of Deputies. We will inform you of the subsequent actions as soon as possible,” they reported in a statement on social media.
The vote took place from 12 to 3 pm on the second floor of the Court, in the Court Murals area. The exercise took place in parallel with the plenary session on Monday.
The result will be delivered by the organizers to the president of the court, Norma Piña Hernández, who will have to make decisions regarding the operation of the Court.
