WIENER NEUDORF. After around five weeks of renovation, the Billa Plus on Triesterstrasse in Graz reopened its doors to customers on August 29, 2024. After the modernization, the market impresses with its bright glass facade and its modern and open design. A wide variety of fresh, seasonal and regionally or locally produced products are offered on a sales area of around 2,200 m². Around 50 employees – three new jobs were created for the region as part of the renovation – are on hand to assist customers with their shopping.
“For more than seven decades, Billa has been supplying people in Austria with fresh food, everyday products and comprehensive services and is considered an important local supplier in town and country. Our goal is to serve individual and local customer needs as best as possible with tailor-made offers. The location on Triesterstrasse in Graz has been in existence since 2004 and we are very pleased that we can continue to offer our customers a wide variety of products as well as attractive prices and promotions after the renovation,” explains Peter Gschiel, Billa Sales Director. Customers benefit from discounts of -25 percent on changing brands and product groups on Fridays and Saturdays. In addition, the popular 25 percent stickers also apply to multiple containers of non-alcoholic beverages and beer. And with the jö discount collector, you can save according to your own wishes. The popular Click and Collect service is also now available in the new Billa Plus store on Triesterstrasse.
Styria in the range
The heart of the remodeled market is the enlarged fresh produce area with a wide selection of seasonal fruit and vegetables, as well as the service areas for delicatessen, fish and meat. The market confectionery focuses on the best ingredients, traditional recipes and quality, and individual special orders for occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries can also be ordered directly from the market. The origin of many products plays an important role. “Our customers attach great importance to regional and local food that comes from companies in the immediate vicinity. We are also naturally happy when we can support small suppliers and offer them a stage for presenting their products. For example, here in our market we have jam and juices from Obstbau Christandl in Unterweißenbach and pasta from the Moarhofhechtl farm in Passail,” says Jürgen Kager, Billa Plus market manager on Triesterstrasse in Graz. Billa and Billa Plus work with 2,500 regional and local producers from the respective federal states throughout Austria – the product range already includes over 25,000 items and is constantly being expanded.
Billa is the first food retailer in Austria to offer 100 percent fresh meat and poultry from Austria since spring 2020. Since May 2021, this promise has also applied to Billa Plus. This means that customers in over 1,200 Billa and Billa Plus stores can be sure that they are only buying Austrian quality in all price segments. In close cooperation with domestic meat and poultry producers, a significant contribution is made to ensuring the continued security of supply with Austrian quality meat products. In addition, Billa and Billa Plus use the “Fair to Animals” animal welfare seal to label products with higher animal welfare standards that exceed legal requirements.
Solidarity with one another
The entire Billa family is particularly concerned with solidarity in the neighborhood: For example, food that can no longer be sold at Billa Plus on Triesterstrasse in Graz, but is still perfectly edible, is passed on to VinziWerke and thus benefits people in need.
Energy efficiency and environmental friendliness also play an important role in the operation of the converted Billa Plus location. The entire building is illuminated inside and out using LEDs and the store is heated using waste heat from the energy-efficient refrigeration system – this means that fossil fuels for heating can be completely dispensed with and up to 26 percent of energy can be saved. In addition, the environmentally friendly refrigerant CO2 is used in normal and deep-freeze storage. All of these measures make the entire store CO2-neutral in operation.
