Traoré has a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee

The worst omens have been confirmed with the injury to Hamari Traoré. The Malian right-back returned from Getafe with a “worrying” injury to his right knee, and the medical tests carried out in San Sebastian have determined that he has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in that knee. This means that he will miss practically the rest of the season, because in the best case scenario, if he recovers well and quickly, he could be ready to play between April and May, but unfortunately this is not the case.

“Hamari Traoré suffered a twisted right knee during yesterday’s match. The imaging tests carried out show a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament,” Real Sociedad reported in a medical report published on its website. The Real Sociedad player, one of Imanol Alguacil’s regulars in defence, will have to undergo surgery in the coming days, with a date yet to be determined. The Mali captain suffered the injury in a fortuitous way, when contesting a ball with former Real Sociedad player Alex Sola in the second half, he stepped wrong with his right knee, which twisted in a strange way and he immediately realised that something was wrong.

The images did not give the impression that the injury was so serious, but Traoré’s worried face already indicated that something was not right. The doctors carried out the box test on the Coliseum pitch and in the dressing room they were already quite pessimistic and feared the worst. Unfortunately, their worst predictions have come true and now Traoré will have to spend a long time off the pitch. On top of that, his contract with Real ends at the end of this season, so his future is currently uncertain due to this serious injury.

Traoré has followed a sad tradition at Real Sociedad over the last five years. There hasn’t been a season in which there hasn’t been a cruciate ligament injury at Real Sociedad over the last five years. It all started with Carlos Fernández, who is now on loan at Cádiz; the following year it was captain Mikel Oyarzabal, who had a hard time coming back but is now at his best; then it was Umar Sadiq’s turn, in the same scenario where Traoré was injured and who hasn’t been the same since; last season, in February of this year, it was Aihen Muñoz’s turn, what a coincidence at the Coliseum on this matchday, and this season it has been the Malian who has fallen.
