/ world today news/ If Bulgaria receives permission from Russia, the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Economy will take all necessary measures to be able to independently repair the aircraft of the Bulgarian army, including the MiG-29, People&Countries reported on Tuesday (February 14 ). This became clear at a working meeting with the participation of the Bulgarian Minister of Economy Teodor Sedlarski on the territory of the state military repair plant “Avionams” in Plovdiv.
“Avionams” is the only enterprise outside the Russian territory that can repair military and civilian aircraft MI-17, MI-8 and their modifications. In the summer of 2016, the enterprise was bought by the government.
NATO helicopters are currently being repaired at the plant. During the visit there, Minister Sedlarski promised that the financing and development of the enterprise will be ensured, which will allow the repair of the helicopters of the alliance to be completed.
The meeting also discussed the issue of continuing cooperation with the Russian authorities in the line of MiG repair activities. The plant has all the necessary equipment for restoration and repair of aircraft manufactured in Russia and used in Bulgaria, emphasized the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy.
Last year, the Bulgarian parliament ratified the intergovernmental agreement with Poland for the repair and maintenance of Russian-made MiG-29 aircraft. This happened, despite the statement of the manufacturer – RSK MiG, that the Russian side will give up the technical support of the Bulgarian fighters if Sofia concludes the contract with Warsaw.
In the end, the Polish side repaired six MiG-29 engines for €6.138 million, and the new engine agreement was signed with Russia.
