More than 1.6 million general education students in Cuba will begin the 2024-2025 school year today with the protection of basic resources to receive quality education, despite economic limitations.
According to statements by the head of the Ministry of Education (MINED), Naima Trujillo, essential methodological, technical and logistical safeguards are guaranteed.
After touring the country and speaking with managers, teachers and local authorities, the minister explained that the enrollment in the course is similar to that of previous cycles, despite the complex demographic dynamics of the island, and the sector has about 156 thousand teachers and professors to cover the teaching needs.
According to Trujillo, this staff will gradually grow with strategies promoted by the union for its full completion, including higher remuneration for teaching activities in other schools.
The head of the Ministry of Education also praised the appropriation of new digital skills by educators that will facilitate interaction with these communication platforms as a way of strengthening the quality of the teaching and learning process.
The determination to raise educational standards is the focus of what is known here as the Third Improvement of Cuban Education, which, among other priorities, addresses political-ideological work, the prevention of social problems, attention to families in vulnerable situations and the comprehensive education of students, Trujillo said.
The Mined will dedicate the current academic year to the 130th anniversary of the death in combat of the National Hero José Martí and to the 65th anniversary of the process of transformation of barracks into schools, led by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
