Is Huawei making a little provocation towards Apple? The week of September 9, which is already busy with the Apple Event that will aim to present the new iPhone 16 range, will be even busier with the Huawei smartphone announcements. The famous Chinese brand has just announced the presentation of a new smartphone with a 10-inch screen and… foldable!
Huawei’s new foldable smartphone presented a few hours after the iPhone 16
Huawei is striking a major blow by taking on Apple directly, scheduling the presentation of its new foldable smartphone right after the highly anticipated Apple Event on September 9. This curious choice raises questions about the Chinese brand’s intentions : is this a deliberate provocation or a mere coincidence? Either way, it promises to be a busy week for new releases, with two of the biggest players in the smartphone market set to unveil their latest smartphones.
While Apple’s keynote, scheduled for September 9 at 7 p.m. (French time), will mark the launch of the new iPhone 16 range, Huawei has chosen to position itself in the same media slot by announcing its event the following day, September 10 at 8:30 a.m. (French time). This communication strategy could allow Huawei to capture some of the media attention generated by the Apple Event. However, the bet is far from won, because the craze surrounding the new iPhones could well eclipse the announcement of the Chinese giant.
The foldable smartphone that Huawei is about to unveil to the media stands out for its impressive 10-inch screen when unfolded, far surpassing the 6.9-inch screen of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which, let’s remember, is not foldable. This new device will also have an ultra-powerful processor, coupled with cutting-edge artificial intelligence features, to meet current market expectations.
To hype up the announcement, Richard Yu, head of Huawei’s consumer business, said the event would mark the launch of the brand’s “most important, most innovative and most revolutionary product” ever.
This announcement comes in a context where Apple, despite its dominance in the smartphone market, has not yet unveiled a foldable model. Even if rumors persist about a possible foldable iPhone, it should not see the light of day for two to three years, in other words we should not expect an announcement next week.
Huawei’s new foldable smartphone will initially be available only in China, a strategic move for the brand as it navigates restrictions imposed by the United States. An international release date could be announced at a later date, but uncertainty remains over Huawei’s ability to regain ground overseas.
