The Deputy Mayor of Tourism Nikolaos Kourkoumelis attended from the Municipality of Argostoli, while the Municipality of Sami was represented by the Mayor Panagis Drakulogonas and the Municipality of Lixouri was represented by the Deputy Mayor of Tourism Eleni Loukeri.
The main objective of the meeting was to plan strategies for the promotion of the Ionian Islands in 2025. Actions aimed at increasing the recognition of the islands and attracting more visitors, focusing on traditional and new tourist markets, were discussed.
Promotion Strategies and Participation in Exhibitions
The Head of the Region informed the attendees of the intention of the Region to actively participate in important tourist exhibitions and actions at the international level. Specifically, it was mentioned:
- In the participation of the Region in exhibitions concerning the traditional tourist markets, where the Ionian Islands already have an established presence.
- In the presence of the Region in America for meetings with the diaspora, strengthening ties and promoting tourism from the American market.
- In the Region’s participation in a workshop at the Qatar exhibition, seeking to open up to new high-potential markets.
- In the planned cooperation with the Hellenic Tourism Organization (HTO) for participation in a tourist exhibition in Japan, with the aim of attracting visitors from the Asian market.
Brand Ionian Islands and Promotion of Kefalonia
One of the important results of the meeting was the decision to include the names of the islands in the Ionian Islands brand, with the aim of enhancing the recognition and promotion of each island individually. This new branding is expected to give the islands greater international recognition, attracting more visitors.
Particular emphasis was placed on the promotion of Kefalonia. The participants recognized the need to strengthen the promotion of the island through:
- Advertisements on international channels and electronic media, which will bring the island to the forefront of the tourist markets.
- Coordinated meetings of the Region and Municipalities with airlines, in collaboration with Fraport, in order to plan and implement co-advertising campaigns that will increase traffic on the island.
Collaboration for the Future
Finally, it was decided that the services of the Municipalities will work closely with the corresponding services of the Region for the planning and implementation of promotion actions for 2025. This collaboration is expected to bring substantial results, highlighting the Ionian Islands as a leading tourist destination.
With these decisions, the Ionian Islands are preparing for a dynamic tourism promotion, which will allow them to strengthen their position on the world tourism map, attracting even more visitors and strengthening the local economy.
