Lyudmila Zhivkova’s irresistible attraction to the mystical and antiques has puzzled more than once. We have focused on some of the striking events of her life. Here is another cave and a treasure that is again associated with Ludmila’s name, according to her close associates.
In the early 1990s, the Mount Babu area was the target of a covert military operation. It was explained to the residents of the area that they were looking for dangerous fugitives across the border. A lot of equipment was gathered at the place, even helicopters.
It is said that the military have dug up some dungeon from which large quantities of jewels have been taken. But here’s what’s going on and who’s leading the military. Milan Milanov has described the entire operation in detail in his book “Secret Dungeons of Bulgaria”.
A local elderly man welcomes Lyudmila Zhivkova as she disembarks from a helicopter along with armed soldiers at the foot of Mount Babu.
The area was cordoned off and no one was around. The group climbed to the top. The man pointed to a spot on the rocks. The soldiers removed large stones and an entrance to a cave opened. The soldiers are inserted into the opening first, followed by the peasant. He again pointed to something on the wall in the cave and went out. Next is its smashing, a gaping entrance with steps to a strange dungeon. The military illuminated the staircase with their powerful searchlights and could not believe their eyes. In front of them was literally “Ali Baba’s cave”.
The dungeon was full of jewels. There were wooden chests with gold coins scattered on the floor, in other chests there were thrown gold vessels, on stands were arranged a golden spear, a golden sword and armor. Two diamonds the size of a pigeon’s egg reflected the light of the spotlights. There was also a gold necklace, a gold ring, and a golden saddle. Other things said to have been found in the cave were books with hard leather covers, a golden inkstand, small gold and silver figurines of gods, a two-meter gold cross and two marble statues with crowns on their heads.
The soldiers who entered the dungeon could not catch their breath at the sight of the treasures and the frozen faces of the statues. After they recovered, they brought batteries into the cave, quickly installed electric lamps and illuminated the cave. The two life-size statues of a man and a woman captured the attention.
In the company of the accompanying officer, Lyudmila also entered the cave.
She was overwhelmed by everything she saw, her face was pale and she was quietly whispering a prayer. She looked for a long time and admired the finds from antiquity, and with undisguised excitement she turned to the statues. The names of Emperor Constantine and Helena were inscribed on the pedestals.
Zhivkova was baptized in front of the ruler, who accepted the Christian faith thanks to her mother Elena. Without hesitation, Zhivkova carefully removed the crowns from the two statues and even thanked them for the gift. She ordered the soldiers to remove the treasures and the marble statues, and crossing herself again, she went outside. Before flying away again forever, she ordered the cave to be walled up.
The day after that, the newspaper “Rabotnichesko Delo” published an article on the front page entitled “Twelve soldiers fled abroad”!
Years before the specific case, people close to Zivkova recall a treasure discovered in the area of the city of Vratsa. However, such a fuss is being made about him that the officials of the Western embassies in our country undertook an urgent visit to the city. The tank brigade from Sofia was put into action, under the pretext that there was an exercise that prevented travel to the Vratsa region, and the rumor of a found treasure suddenly turned out to be “false”.
Valuable treasures were found in a cave near Vratsa, among which a marble royal throne was discovered.
Operatives of a “special” unit in the Ministry of the Interior quickly appeared on the scene. They carry out an inspection and take out the treasures, write down in detail in the inspection protocols what they saw, filmed and what was taken out. The next day, Minister Dimitar Stoyanov orders the protocols of the officers’ inspections to disappear. The Ministry of Internal Affairs officials in question were instructed that they never visited the area around Vratsa, did not participate in the discovery of any treasure. They bought their silence with an apartment each, a gift from Todor Zhivkov.
The National History Museum did not find out anything about any marble throne or treasure.
An acquaintance, whose name will not be mentioned, says that everything found over the years has disappeared without a trace outside the border. The illegal excavations were carried out secretly, without the knowledge and permission of the BAS, without calling archaeologists, only with the verbal order of Todor Zhivkov and after a conversation with his daughter. Sarcophagi and valuables were exported to Russia, Italy and the Vatican.
According to the loquacious man, the throne was not gone. It was simply transported secretly to Russia. It is said that nine rulers in a row sat on it. Behind the dungeon, where the throne used to be, there is a stone hall where the sarcophagi of the nine buried rulers are laid, say the legends. Once the sarcophagi are discovered, the names of these rulers will become clear.
It turns out that Lyudmila Zhivkova insisted that all the treasures remain in Bulgaria
and to reveal to the world the true history of our country and the ancient roots of the Bulgarians. That is exactly why she so persistently wanted to find the sarcophagus of the goddess Bastet.
She hoped that the violations she committed would benefit the Bulgarian people. She wanted to keep the valuables secret until the moment came when they would be exhibited in a museum specially built for the purpose, without the danger of the rulers selling them outside the country. It is said that Lyudmila owned nine golden royal crowns – seven golden crowns of different our rulers from different eras, and the other two crowns were not from the Bulgarian lands. They were taken out of the country after Lyudmila’s death, and the valuables taken from Mount Babu were transported by helicopter to one of Todor Zhivkov’s residences.
Regarding the death of Lyudmila Zhivkova, it is alleged that she was poisoned by the secret services of the Great Powers. She knew the truth about the origin of the Bulgarians. She knew the locations of a number of ancient sanctuaries, underground cities and treasures. Her wish was to make this knowledge available to people and societies, she worked entirely for the prosperity of Bulgaria, so that our country could take its rightful place in the history of the world. However, the Great Powers did not like this and they decided to get rid of her forever.
Her father had been warned more than once to do everything possible to stop Lyudmila in her quest for the ancient origin and greatness of Bulgaria,
but in spite of his insistence, she has stood her ground, and thus brought hatred against herself. Ludmila had open spiritual channels and senses and had seen, through a spiritual path, many of the places and treasures, say those in the know. It is known, however, that she was also informed about many of the mysterious excavations by treasure hunters or local residents. Ludmila entered the Vatican archives as a historian four times. It is said that she was able to get copies of original maps and documents from there.
What is true and what is not, no one can say for sure anymore. One thing is clear, everything sounds like a fairy tale. And maybe someone wants it to sound exactly like that – like a fairy tale…
