Kylian Mbappé has ended his goalless streak in LaLiga in the fourth game. The French star striker scored his first two goals at the end of the fourth matchday, leading Real Madrid to a 2-0 (0-0) home victory over Real Betis Sevilla. The 25-year-old scored his first goal in the 67th minute after fine work by Federico Valverde. The world’s most valuable footballer scored goal number two from a penalty in the 75th minute after visiting goalkeeper Rui Silva had brought down Vinicius Junior.
After the game, he spoke about his relief at finally scoring in the league. “It’s a great moment. I was hoping to score in this mystical stadium, the best in the world. But the most important thing was the win,” said Mbappé (quoted via “Real Total”): “People give me a lot of love. They did that even when I didn’t score. It was three games. For many people that’s not a lot, but for me it was a lot.”
The 2018 world champion was also asked about the penalty-taking hierarchy, as there had been disputes about it at his former club PSG in the past. “The coach says that Vini and I share the penalties. He took one and today I took it. But I’m thinking more about the feeling. He or I can take two or three in a row. I don’t want to force things, I don’t want to just take the ball. That’s not my mentality.”
With their second win in four games, defending champions Real Madrid moved up to second place with eight points. League leaders FC Barcelona are four points ahead. The long-defending guests from Real Betis fell back to 17th place with just two points.
