Relief Therapeutics share: PKU GOLIKE could lower phenylalanine levels in the blood | 02.09.24

According to initial findings, this can have a positive effect on phenylalanine levels in patients with phenylketonuria.

According to the release, the study will examine the benefits of PKU GOLIKE compared to standard amino acid protein replacement products in controlling nighttime phenylalanine (Phe) fluctuations in the pediatric population with phenylketonuria (PKU). Preliminary results would suggest that the Relief Therapeutics product lowers blood phenylalanine levels and increases blood tyrosine levels overnight compared to standard amino acid protein replacement products.

If confirmed, these results would demonstrate an improved ability of PKU GOLIKE to prevent toxic accumulation of Phe in PKU patients during prolonged fasting periods. The final and comprehensive results of the study conducted at Birmingham Children’s Hospital will be published after the ongoing data analysis is completed, Relief writes.

Phenylketonuria is a disorder of amino acid metabolism that causes a clinical syndrome of mental retardation, cognitive impairment, and behavioral abnormalities due to elevated serum phenylalanine levels.
