Mexican women win silver at World Flag Football Championship

There was no revenge for Mexico. The Mexican women’s flag football team won silver again in the World Championship of the specialty, which is taking place in Finland, after losing 31-18 to a United States team that won its third consecutive title.

The defeat revives for the Mexicans the bitter memory of three years ago when they also lost the gold medal to the Americans in the final of Israel 2021.

The result also fueled a fight to demonstrate a historical hierarchy, as the United States now equals the tricolors, who were crowned in 2004, 2008 and 2012, with three titles (2018, 2021 and 2024), as the most successful women’s team in the competition.

Mexican quarterback Diana Flores had a great performance, along with Ana Aguayo, who put pressure on the team at the end of the game after getting close to the scoreboard on several occasions. However, the American offense was more skillful in securing the victory.

Men’s Tricolor let go of the bronze

The Mexican men’s team lost the bronze medal after losing 35-41 to the Swiss team. The Mexicans were unable to meet expectations in this edition by leaving without a medal after having come to the competition as runners-up.

Although the match was close, the tricolor offense failed near the end when Switzerland intercepted a pass that was crucial to defining the score.

The United States increased its position in the competition by winning its sixth title since the tournament was created in 2002. The Americans won the final 53-21 against Austria, which claimed its second runner-up finish.
