Ricky Pearsall, wide receiver of the San Francisco 49ers, was released from the hospital one day after being shot in an attempted robbery. The young star did not suffer serious injuries and did not require surgical treatment. A source from the league reported that Pearsall remained awake and conscious during his hospital stay. His family was with him the whole time. The 23-year-old, along with his family and the entire San Francisco 49ers team, thanked the police, emergency services and doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital for their support and professional help. The hospital doctors had previously upgraded Pearsall to “stable condition.” According to the police report, Pearsall was approached in the Union Square district of San Francisco, which resulted in a physical scuffle. Both Pearsall and the perpetrator were shot. On Saturday, police arrested a 17-year-old suspect from Tracy, California, about 60 miles east of San Francisco. The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene. Police Chief William Scott stated that there is no evidence that Pearsall was targeted because of his NFL career. Based on the interview with Pearsall, police believe the suspect acted alone. Ricky Pearsall was selected 31st overall by the 49ers in this year’s NFL Draft. He previously played three seasons at Arizona State University and another two years at the University of Florida.
