Home » Apple » Facebook and Instagram too: Large platforms do not want to let Apple Intelligence access data
Apple Intelligence is not allowed to use many large websites for its own training. The operators prevent their data sets from being mined by Apple’s AI by setting appropriate default settings, although economic considerations are likely to be the deciding factor.
Generative language models become good when they are trained with immense amounts of data. The more data they process, the better the word-by-word text prediction works – that is all models like ChatGPT are in essence – and delivers sentences and formulations that seem so amazingly human. Apple Intelligence is now used by many large websites and online services, according to Media reports not welcome, they have stated that Apple cannot search their data and use it for AI training. Apple explained this possibility at WWDC 2024. In the robot’.txt, a simple text file stored in the main directory of a domain, the operator can record what data search engines and their automated routines are allowed to access and use for their index. It can also be noted there that Apple must stay out.
Meta, for example, has set this setting for Facebook and Instagram; the FT, the New York Times and USA Today also have something against Apple Intelligence, as do Craigslist and Tumblr.
Operators may want to see money
Although Apple had already collected data from the web for Apple Intelligence, the AI is much younger than that of OpenAI and other providers and is therefore lagging behind.
However, this attitude does not have to remain the case. Apple may still have a chance to train its own models with the data from these large and important platforms, but they probably intend to charge for it.
Meta, for example, is likely to see another opportunity to monetize its user data and present Apple with a hefty bill for allowing the iPhone company to further upgrade its AI with text and images from Facebook and Instagram. Large magazine publishers also have a vested interest in not making their content available to the AI giants for free.
