Latino who killed cyclist gets 3 years probation

Charlotte.- The Latino who ran over and killed a cyclist in Charlotte was sentenced to three years of probation.

Christian R. Diaz Castilloof Hispanic origin and 37 years of age, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felony hit and runaccording to the 26 Fiscal District from Mecklenburg County.

On the night of February 23, Díaz ran over Christopher Ryan Starrwho was riding a bicycle on South Tyrion Street in southwest Charlotte, near the South Carolina border.

Although the man received first aid, he died at the scene, and Díaz Castillo fled the scene.

For these facts, Judge Eady Williams sentenced Díaz Castillo to between 1 year 4 months and 2 years 5 months.

But the sentence was suspended pending his successful completion of three years of supervised probation.

As conditions of his probation, the Latino will be required to serve a split sentence of 180 days in the Mecklenburg County Jail.

In addition, he will not be able to drive a vehicle.

Cyclist hit by car for speeding

According to the police investigation, Starr was riding his bicycle southbound on Tryon Street.

The man was riding in the right lane, wearing a light on his helmet and a reflective vest.

However, as he approached the intersection with Steele Creek Road, a Mazda CX-5, driven by Diaz Castillo, struck Starr with the front right side.

This caused the cyclist to be thrown onto the sidewalk, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

After running over Starr, Díaz Castillo left the scene.

However, he was later located and arrested by the police.

The authorities announced that some of the factors that caused the accident were excessive speed and risky driving by the Latino, who will have to pay with probation.
