Increasing demand for tourism advice

“We have generally seen an increase in the number of overnight stays in Magdeburg, and recently a disproportionate number of people arriving by train, which is certainly also due to the fact that the newly operated Regional Express 1 runs much more frequently and we therefore see significantly more guests here at this location alone. It is amazing that, despite all the digitalization, individual advice is still desired and many people come in and want to have a few insider tips, what ultimately makes a tourist information point, and want to have the route through the city explained. We are quite busy,” explains Hardy Puls, Managing Director of Magdeburg Marketing Kongress und Tourismus GmbH, the idea behind the change from the MVB hut to the tourist information center.

Marcel Franke, head of the tourism department, will manage the new information service with his team. He knows exactly what questions he will be asked and is also familiar with the trends of the last few weeks.

“How do I get to the Hundertwasser House?”, currently also “Why is there no tram here?” and “Where is the nearest tram stop?”, we actually noticed this very strongly during the renovation phase, but the classic questions are “Where can I eat well?”, “How do I get to the cathedral square?”, “Where can I take a city tour?”, something so typically Magdeburg, what you can buy, what you can eat,” reports Marcel Franke, standing proudly behind his new information desk.

The tourist information office is not allowed to give specific recommendations regarding the choice of restaurant, but instead the hungry traveller is shown several options for a stop. And don’t worry, dear passengers, in addition to souvenirs from around Magdeburg and the usual advice on everything that’s going on in Magdeburg, you can still buy MVB tickets here.
