The first day of the Warrior Cup in Kaufbeuren ended with two wins for the favorites. The international tournament was certainly very exciting: outsider Glasgow (EIHL) demanded everything from EC Red Bull Salzburg (current champions of the ICE Hockey League) and only lost 2:3 in overtime. Offensive defender Dennis Robertson, who had already scored the 1:0 lead, also scored the winning goal for the Red Bulls in overtime. Clan newcomer Tyson McLellan (formerly EV Landshut) was able to attract attention with a goal and an assist.
In the evening, a good 2,000 spectators watched the duel between hosts ESV Kaufbeuren and Jokerit Helsinki from Finland. The former KHL club and current Finnish second division team was ultimately too big for the DEL2 representative in their 6:3 victory over the Buron Joker. The Allgäu team, who himself struck three times in the power play, was ultimately unable to get a handle on Alexander Forslund (two goals, three assists). Jokerit Helsinki will therefore face Red Bull Salzburg in the final on Sunday at 6 p.m. The Kaufbeuren team will play against Glasgow Clan beforehand at 2 p.m.
At the Niemeier Haustechnik Cup, which had to move from Deggendorf to Selb, the Selber Wölfe and Slavia Prague are in the final on Sunday (kick-off at 5:30 p.m.). The Upper Franconians celebrated a 3:2 victory over the Hammer Eisbären from the Oberliga Nord as substitute hosts. Mark McNeill scored the winning goal for the Wolves in the final phase when they were in the majority. In the second semi-final, the Deggendorfer SC from the Oberliga Süd conceded three goals in the first six minutes of play, but recovered from this as the game continued. The final score against the Czech second division team from Prague was 3:5. So on Sunday the two Oberliga teams Hamm and Deggendorf will meet in the match for third place (kick-off at 1:30 p.m.), while the Selber Wölfe (DEL2) and Slavia Prague will meet again in the final. Both teams played against each other in Prague ten days ago, with Slavia winning 3:0 at home.
Meanwhile, the Lausitzer Füchse had to admit defeat in their away game in Manchester with a score of 3:4 after overtime. A double from Lewis Zerter-Gossage in the first period and the late equalizer from Jérémy Beaudry were ultimately not enough to leave the ice as winners. The former British national defender Dallas Ehrhardt ensured the Storm’s success in overtime.
