Oil reserves in Russia will last for 40 years – 2024-09-01 08:00:34

/ world today news/ The reserves of oil in the traditionally developed deposits on the territory of Russia will last for 30-40 years, and the development of the non-traditional deposits will “increase these terms many times”, said the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia Sergey Donskoi.

“If we talk about traditional oil deposits, at today’s rates of production, they will be enough for us in 30-40 years. But the unconventional oil reserves – the Bazhenov deposits in Western Siberia, the bituminous shale in the Volga-Ural zone and the like multiply the terms of our oil supply. However, everything will depend on the technologies that are constantly developing,” says the minister.

He points out that currently oil is extracted from fields that are 3-4 kilometers deep, but many experts believe that the extraction from a greater depth even of the already developed fields in Western Siberia, the Volga region or the Caspian Sea can give a serious stock of liquid energy carriers. “Plus the Arctic shelf and deposits along the Arctic coast, where their development has not yet begun due to various reasons: climatic, technological, environmental,” adds Donskoi.

The minister points out that “many countries are paying more and more attention to non-traditional deposits – in addition to shale projects, there are also those for gas hydrates”.

Russia, which has traditionally topped the ranking of the largest oil and gas producers, also expects to increase renewable energy sources 10 times over the next 5-6 years, Alexei Teksler, Russia’s deputy energy minister, said recently.
