The research project Blood4goods is aligned with a circular and sustainable economy model. Its objective is to take advantage of blood of porcine and bovine origin and, by a hydrolytic processconverting it into high added value proteins. The initiative is also working on validating its possible application as a fertilizer in agriculture or as an ingredient in the formulation of functional foods.

The investigation is carried out through the operational group Blood4goodsin which various entities based in different autonomous communities participate, experts in different key areas for the development of the project and with experience in this type of calls, such as Soler Industrial Slaughterhouses (I extend) and Novafrigsa.
For the transformation of blood into protein through hydrolytic processes they have the University of Oviedo, Sueve Biotech, Ainia y Qeratin.
Herogra, A slice y Aurora will focus on the application of the protein. And the study of techno-economic feasibility and dissemination will be in charge grow up and the National Association of Meat Industries of Spain (Anice).
The general director of the latter organization, Joseph Aloisiostressed that the work focuses on “creating valuable resources for the industry, promoting a circular and sustainable economy model.”
The call of the Ministry
The project Blood4goods has been the sixth best rated in the call for subsidies for supra-autonomous Operational Groups called by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), within the framework of the Strategic Plan of the CAP of Spain. Of the 151 applications submitted, 65 projects have been accepted, which will be distributed 37.3 million euros, according to the final resolution.
The MAPA call is focused on supporting the execution of innovation projects of general interest in the agri-food and forestry sectors, as well as in the rural environment. And all of them are based on Innovative ideas designed to solve potential challenges in their respective fields of action.
These projects must have been designed and executed by operational groups formed by entities from different autonomous communities, both public and private, thus promoting the public-private collaboration models.
The initiatives are developed by supra-autonomous operational groups of the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (AEI-Agri), within the framework of the Strategic Plan of the CAP of Spain (PEPAC). They are financed by the MAPA and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).”
