Currently undergoing renovation, the Montereau hospital, a member of the South Seine-et-Marne hospital center (CH Sud 77), is visited by several thousand patients each year.
Whether for simple appointments, light or more serious surgical operations, or even long-term stays, the reasons why people go there are as diverse as the services available at the establishment.
But if everyone knows the cardiology, ophthalmology or orthopedics departments, other departments are much less well-known. This is particularly the case for the sexual health centerof CHEGIDD (Free screening center) and the PASS (Permanent access to health care). Presentation.
Sexual Health Center
So let’s start with the sexual health center, probably the best known of the three. And for good reason, if it changed its name in 2022, this service is none other than the former CPEF, that is to say the family planning and education center.
“The sexual health center mainly deals with making appointments for the IVG support (voluntary termination of pregnancy, editor’s note) and the contraception “, explains Dr Ludovic Agboca, head of the gynecology-obstetrics department.
Although the way this service works has not changed since its name was changed, taking the step of making an appointment and going to the sexual health centre can cause apprehension among many people. However, By Vanessa Joussela medical-administrative assistant, assures us that there is nothing to fear.

“Some women are afraid of being judged, they feel guilty to have an abortion and so they are very apprehensive. So we listen carefully and reassure them, because it is their choice and we have no judgment to make,” she confides.
What’s more, it is no longer necessary to call the hospital directly to make an appointment: “Since autumn 2023, Appointments can be made onlinewhich makes things easier because some patients don’t dare to call,” adds Arthur Moinet, deputy director of CH Sud 77.
On the figures side, 160 IVG were performed at Montereau hospital in 2023 and 113 for the year 2024, a slight increase compared to the same period last year.
STI screening center
Sometimes confused with the sexual health center, since they both deal with the theme of sexuality, the CeGIDD (Free Center for Information, Screening and Diagnosis of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infections and Viral Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections) nevertheless has very different functions.
“The aim of these centres is to provide free access for the entire population to screening for sexually transmitted infectionssuch as HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, chlamydia or even papillomavirus. The CeGIDD is in fact the result of the merger of anonymous and free screening centers and STI treatment centers,” explains the Dr. Pierre Leroyhead of the public health unit of the GHSIF (South Île-de-France Hospital Group), to which the CeGIDD is attached.
So, every Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., without appointment and anonymously or not, depending on the patient’s wishes, anyone can go to the CeGIDD reception, located on the ground floor of Montereau hospital, to request free screening for any sexually transmitted infection.
“The population that frequents the center is diverse, but the majority has between 20 and 25 years old. In 2023, around 300 people were tested,” says Dr. Leroy.
Permanent access to health care
Finally, as for the PASS, the permanent access to health care, it is aimed at all people who do not have medical coverage.
“This service is open to all those who do not have rights to Social Security or who have great difficulty accessing care. This often concerns foreign people. who do not have a good command of French, who have no resources or no place to live,” underlines Arthur Moinet.
“Its two missions are to meet health needswhoever they are, and to bring these people into the healthcare system,” adds Dr. Leroy.
Within the Montereau hospital, this office is open two days a weeknamely Tuesday and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.: “The Montereau PASS is quite busy. Every year, around 200 people consult this service,” concludes the deputy director of CH Sud 77.
