Germany’s comedian icon Hape Kerkeling
The career of Hans-Peter Wilhelm Kerkeling (* 9 December 1964 in Recklinghausen) began with a failure: In 1977, the then 12-year-old applied to “Loriot” for the role of the chubby child Dicki (Zicke Zacke Hühnerkacke) in the sketch “Christmas at the Hoppenstedts” – but did not get the role.
Kerkeling made his breakthrough in 1984/85 in the comedy show “Känguru”, where he appeared as the character of the preschool child “Hannilein”.
Awarded the Golden CameraKerkeling won the 2012 German Television Award, the Adolf Grimme Prize and the Bavarian Television Prize for his comedy format “Total Normal”, in which he fooled the Berlin police dressed as the Dutch Queen Beatrix.
He later invented the character of the hard-drinking local journalist Horst Schlämmer, appeared in films and as a voice actor, wrote books and had numerous other television shows.
