Bash in Berlin – this is how the matches work:
– Right at the beginning of the show there was one of the most important: In an atmospheric WWE title match, enhanced by the ecstatic mood of the German fans, Champion Cody Rhodes his allies Kevin Owens. The focus of the match story was the question of whether the friendship between the two would survive the match or whether Owens would turn against Rhodes and resort to dirty tricks,

Owens didn’t do it, and even spared Rhodes when it became apparent that Rhodes – as Owens had previously noted – had started the match with a damaged knee. Ultimately, the “American Nightmare” still won with his Cross-Rhodes finisher. After the duel, the two hugged each other.
– The second match saw an event of historic significance: For the first time in more than two decades, new WWE title holders were crowned on German soil when the dazzling star duo Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill recaptured the women’s tag team belts from the Unholy Alliance (Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn).

The last time the rather insignificant Hardcore Title was changed was in 2002 in Cologne. More importantly, in 1997 – also in Berlin – the British Bulldog was crowned the first WWE European Champion after an outstanding match against his brother-in-law Owen Hart. Both died tragically young in the years that followed.
– Match 3 was particularly tough, a strap match between arch rivals CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. In the fight, both were tied together with a leather belt, which both also used extensively as a striking instrument. Special rule: the winner is the one who touches all four corners of the ring in a short time despite the handicap of the straps. Punk got the energy to do this when McIntyre mockingly put on Punk’s wife AJ Lee’s bracelet, which he had taken from Punk during the feud. Punk knocked McIntyre down with four executions of his Go to Sleep finisher and thus had time to end the fight, get the bracelet back and be celebrated at his first appearance in Germany in over 10 years.
