The air transport sector closed the first seven months of 2024 with a record figure of 18.1 million passengers, up 18.5% compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
This development amounts to double-digit growth, both for international traffic (+17.9%) and for national traffic (+24.6%), explains the DEPF in its recent economic report, citing statistics from the National Airports Office (ONDA). This performance, continues the same source, benefited from the good performance of traffic in the majority of national airports, particularly those of Casablanca (+6.4%), Marrakech (+30.2%), Agadir (+34.6%), Tangier (+20%), Fez (+11.4%), Rabat-Salé (+40.4%), Nador (+3.9%), Oujda (+10.5%), Tetouan (+23.8%), Dakhla (+33.2%), Laayoune (+9.9%), Essaouira (+29.2%) and Ouarzazate (+18.4%).
By geographical area, air traffic continued its momentum at the end of July 2024 with Europe (+19%), the Middle and Far East (+12.1%), Africa (+16.4%), North America (+8.4%) and the Maghreb countries (+7.6%), reports the DEPF.
Regarding air freight traffic and airport movement, they increased by 24.2% and 14.8% respectively at the end of last July.
